Join us in celebrating our wedding on the beautiful island of Ithaca.
Ithaca holds a very special place in our hearts — not only because Danae’s father was from here, but also because our love grew stronger during our
summer moments on the island, and through our engagement on August 14th, at the panygiri of Anogi.
Hard to reach, yet truly worth the journey, Ithaca rewards its visitors with crystal turquoise waters and lush green landscapes. We sincerely hope you fall in love with this special place just as deeply as we have.
Located near Stavros, this site holds immense historical and mythological significance, though entry into the cave is restricted. Visitors can still explore the surrounding area and enjoy the natural beauty. Combine your visit to the cave with a stop at nearby Stavros village, where you can visit a small museum dedicated to Ithaca’s archaeological finds and eat the local desert rovani.
For breathtaking views over Ithaca and its neighbouring islands, hike up to the Monastery of Panagia Kathariotissa. The monastery, built in the 17th-century, is located high in the hills and offers peaceful surroundings and awe-inspiring vistas of the island’s coastline.
Anogi, one of Ithaca’s oldest villages, offers a glimpse into the island’s history. The village is famous for its menhirs (standing stones) and its beautiful Byzantine church, the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin, adorned with 12th-century frescoes. The menhirs, some of which are over three metres tall, are said to date back to ancient times.
The charming village of Exogi, perched on the edge of a rugged cliff overlooking the shimmering waters of the Afales Bay, lies a marvel of ancient architecture – the Pyramids of Exogi. These unique tombs, resembling pyramids built atop millstones, stand as silent sentinels to a bygone era, shrouded in myth and mystery.
The village of Kioni, nestled in a sheltered bay, is one of Ithaca’s most picturesque locations. With its pastel-coloured houses and vibrant bougainvillaea, Kioni is the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon. Enjoy a coffee at a waterfront cafe, explore the narrow streets, or take a refreshing swim in the harbour.
The Odysseus Trail offers one of the best hiking experiences on the island, taking you through lush landscapes and olive groves to Arethusa Spring, a freshwater source mentioned in The Odyssey. According to legend, this is where Odysseus met his swineherd, Eumaeus. The trail is well-marked and ideal for those looking for an adventure.

We recommend staying near Vathy port, but since ferries no longer stop there, passengers now
arrive at Piso Aetos (Pisaetos), a 20-minute drive to Vathy or other designated ports, such as Frikes
or Kioni, a 30-35 minute drive to Vathy.
Ferries depart:
• From Patras to Ithaca’s main port Piso Aetos, the journey is around 3.5–4 hours.
• From Kyllini, the trip takes
approximately 2.5–3 hours.
• From Astakos to Ithaca’s main
port Piso Aetos, the trip takes 3-3.5 hours.
• From Astakos to Frikes port, the trip takes 2 hours.
• Seasonal routes operate between Ithaca and nearby Ionian islands such as Lefkada (via Vasiliki) or via Kefalonia.
Since Ithaca has no airport, the closest airport is Kefalonia International Airport (EFL). From there, drive to Sami, then
take the ferry to Ithaca or a sea taxi.
Please note that Kefalonia’s airport to Sami port is approximately a 1-hour drive.
You can also reach the island by
helicopter from Athens, Kefalonia,
or Lefkada, and then take a short
10-minute taxi ride to Vathy port.
Here are a few operators:
If you don’t plan to explore the island, you won’t need a car. However, you will need to book a taxi from the ferry to Vathy. Please note that there are only five taxis on the island, so we strongly recommend bringing your own car for easier transportation around the island.
Do NOT bring your car to the wedding day, as there is no parking in the village. Use the wedding transportation.
